Week 1 - What's Ahead!

First day back at uni and I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed, but excited about what I am going to achieve this semester. ICTs are an ever evolving and limitless resource for personal, professional and educational use. I am looking forward to exploring some of the uses within education.

After taking a breath, I managed to find time to sit down and read the 2010 Horizon Report: Australia-New Zealand edition (http://www.nmc.org/publications/2010-horizon-anz-report). This elaborated on what was discussed during our lecture, and provided interesting insight into what the future in ICT and education holds. The technologies predicted that will be adapted in the classroom is exciting. Technologies such as electronic books, use of mobiles, augmented reality, open content, gesture-based computing and visual data analysis. Are Education Queensland schools ready for these changes?

I have organised my group for the Professional Development (PD) video and created a group using Google groups, to enable us to communicate and collaborate. As a group we have decided to focus our professional development video on showcasing what Google has to offer in respect of one Key Learning Area. Scott is researching in respect of SOSE, Stacey is researching in respect of the Arts and I am researching for Science. Once these are brought together, we will decided which area to focus on. Scott has started a Google doc so that we can all put our ideas on the same document.
